Are free Registry Cleaners an
Alternative?
What about those free registry cleaners?
There are a number of free tools out there which often have
registry cleaner functionality. The majority (if not all) of the
free "registry cleaners" were never intended to clean the
registry. One of the most known free tools is actually a
junk-file cleaner which helps for removing temporary files from
the PC and to make more space on the computer.
We had several test runs on PCs where we examined how powerful
those free tools are. We can without a doubt say that those free
tools are no match for a professional registry cleaner like
Registry Easy.
The functionality of one pretty known so called "free registry
cleaner" is limited to a very weak and mild scan of the
registry. In our comparison scans it hardly found any errors,
let alone fixed anything significant in the registry.
People think they got a good deal because it was advertised as
"free registry cleaner". They let the software run and the free
tool "detects" a handful of non significant problems in the
registry and the people believe that their PC is now faster and
many errors have been fixed.
Without mentioning a product name (it would not be fair!) we
need to give the free product credit since it does a very good
job with cleaning junk-files, like cookies, temporary files and
freeing space on the hard drive. In fact, this was the main
purpose of the tool and the registry cleaning feature merely
added as an option.
But when it comes to the actual registry cleaning it just cannot
compete due to such a mild scan which essentially does nothing
for the registry. The PC user needs to decide whether he is
willing to spend a few bucks on a real registry cleaner which is
specialized in all matters of the registry. In our opinion a no
brainer for every PC enthusiast: Spending hundreds (if not
thousands) on hardware but then skimping on essential software
which could significantly boost PC performance and stability?
Doesn't really make a lot of sense...
Here the old principle applies: You get what you paid for. When
it comes to computer software this is often not any different. I
don't know about you, but when I chose hardware or software I
usually do extensive research beforehand, because I want the
best bang for the buck and certainly don't want to settle for
less. This is one reason rather to go with a specialized and
more powerful
registry software and not a free tool which was never designed
for such a purpose in the first place.
